Fujian Institute of Subtropical Botany was founded in 1959 and is affiliated with the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology. It was formerly known as the East China Institute of Subtropical Botany under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The institute specializes in research on the physiology, biochemistry, and ecology of tropical and subtropical plants, as well as the development and utilization of plant resources. It operates as a public welfare research institution. As of July 2013, the institute is located in Xiamen, covering an area of 150,000 square meters. It has 83 staff members, eight specialized laboratories, and one experimental testing center.

The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Xiamen University is a secondary school of the university. It was established in 2010 through the integration of the former Institute of Biomedical Research and the Department of Pharmacy of the School of Medicine, forming a specialized institution dedicated to pharmaceutical education and research. As of December 2017, the school has one teaching department, one undergraduate program, one authorized first-level discipline master’s program, and one professional master’s program. It has 320 undergraduate students and 201 postgraduate students.

The College of Chemical Engineering at Huaqiao University traces its origins to the Department of Chemical Engineering established in 1964. In July 1998, it was reorganized through the merger of the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Department of Chemistry, and the Institute of Materials, and renamed the College of Chemical Engineering. In October 2000, it was renamed the College of Materials Science and Engineering. On June 16, 2008, the college was divided into two separate schools, with the new College of Chemical Engineering formed by the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering, the Department of Biological Engineering and Technology, and the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering.
